Comfortable, Confident & Coordinated

Updated: Jun 8, 2020

Your family portrait session is booked, logically you start thinking "what do we wear?". Many family sessions take place in our great outdoors. So, consider if your scheduled on the beach or park, along with the time of year. Obviously, being in Florida, we don't have much of a seasonal change, so those longer sleeves that look great in traditional family portraits may not be the best choice for the sunny beach. The most important thing to remember when choosing an outfit, is how it makes you feel. If you're not feeling comfortable and confident in the outfit you choose, it will show in your final images.

I encourage you to take a look at your closets and choose outfits that don't match, but compliment each other. Many of my mom's decide that they want their child in a super cute outfit, and choose their own outfits to compliment their choice. I still recommend avoiding busy patterns and any text/graphics. Remember, your portrait session is to create that beautiful piece of art to showcase in your home for years to come.

Note that I chose to put my daughter in a cute outfit, and coordinated my husband's and my outfit to compliment the colors in her top's design.

A couple other things to consider before your session:

Hair : Do you need a color touch up, or maybe just a trim?

Nails : Mani Pedi Time! Treat yourself a few days before your session. You'll thank me later ;-)

Shoes : Consider if you even want to wear shoes in your portraits. Once we get to your portrait location, some of my families decide to go barefoot. If not, consider a pair that's going to compliment your outfit. There probably won't be too many captures that show your feet, but it's always good to come prepared.
